Lord Of The Rings: Shadow Of War is Coming And You Get To Ride A Dragon
Dean introduced me to Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Mordor, an Assassins's Creed-type game which is set in the LoTR universe. Playing as a ranger who has lost everything, one must infiltrate the orc-camps and ascend the ranks while taking out lower level orc generals one by one. This unique "Nemesis System" allowed the game to keep track of what generals you have defeated, and which have defeated you, potentially increasing their rank and strength. There is a non-canon LoTR plot in there somewhere too, but bottom line you had to find unique ways of taking out hordes of orcs and got some awesome powers along the way. There was some pretty mediocre DLC that was released, but it left fans of the game thirsty for more, especially with the cliffhanger at the end of the game.
Fast forward, today the highly anticipated sequel Shadow of War was announced last week, providing a little insight as to what to expect from Shadow of War. Today, the first gameplay walkthrough video was released (below), and it looks great. It expands on the Nemesis System to include a more robust experience and provide even more ways to take on the orc forces of Mordor. But the best part. Oh yes, is the best part is that you get to ride a dragon. (Yeah, Yeah, it's a Drake.) YOU RIDE A DRAGON AND IT BURNS ORCS WITH FIRE THAT SPITS OUT OF ITS' MOUTH! There is no question about it now, I MUST have this game on the day it releases. Preordered. There are currently THREE different versions you can preorder. The standard edition, the Gold Edition (Includes all DLC), and the Mithril Edition which retails for $299.99 and is an exclusive to GameStop. It's a bit pricy, but it does include a 12" statue of a drake and a balrog fighting. Which version are you getting?
