Dreamation 2017 Experiences - Dragon Dice
At Dreamation you sign up for slots to play games which can be competitive, social, or educational. Brad had some classic Dragon Dice but never really learned to play the game and so we signed up to learn the game with our two new friends Dan and Kim (from the podcasts MFGcast and Gaming Nonsense Uncensored) and did battle. For those of you (like me 3 days ago) who were not familiar with Dragon Dice it is a 2-4 player dueling game that was originally released in the 90's by TSR (the publishers of Dungeons and Dragons before their name changed to Wizards of the Coast) as an answer to Magic: The Gathering and it features collectible classes of warriors who have unique powers and skills. Your army consists of 32 dice and you divide them up against your opponent as you try to capture two out of three terrains or in our experience try to wipe them off the face of the earth. When TSR moved on from the title it was bought by SFR who brought a few changes to the game and continue to support it with booster packs and accessories.
The game appears complicated to start but like many games a single play through clarifies things quickly and the game has an amazing amount of depth in the strategy. As a lover of Dice Masters this game is up my alley but would require a lot less collecting. I played as Lava Elves, a race i enjoyed and the team at the event were nice enough to build me a starter kit based on the team with which I beat Brad's goblins or whatever to death. The dice are well made and feature groovy archaic artwork so i was happy with my first new game purchase of the event. Brad also supplemented his collection so I think he will get another crack at my lava elves seeking some blood vengeance.
