Starbound Devs Tease New Game Resembling Advance Wars / Fire Emblem
Advance Wars will always be one of my favorite turn based strategy games. The concept is basic, but the later levels still to this day remain challenging. One false move, and that could be the end of your platoon. Several sequels were created on Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Wii, and Nintendo DS and were met with much success. Although we have not seen Advance Wars since the AW: Days of Ruin in 2008, some of the earlier titles are currently available via the Nintendo eShop. Fire Emblem took a different spin on the turn-based strategy game and added in personalities to the units, special powers, and permadeath in some modes. Fire Emblem is still very popular today, and just recently had two releases on the Nintendo 3DS with DLC options last year.
Chucklefish CEO Finn Brice teased on Twitter today that they were working on a new game and showed some gameplay footage. It clearly looks like someone took Advance Wars and Fire Emblem and created a hybrid mash-up of the two. Noting the level of quality of the games that Chucklefish publishes (Starbound, Stardew Valley, etc.), I am sure this title will not disappoint fans of either Nintendo strategy franchise. Most likely being released on the PC, this opens up many different possibilities like mod support, online multiplayer, and map editors. I am quite excited to see where Chucklefish takes this genre, and could be a sure fire hit. Hopefully we see this at least in Early Access in 2017.
