Iron Man and War Machine Dice Masters Revealed
We have been heavy on Dice Masters here the last few days. We promise to cover other things again soon but we got a shipment from Wizkids/NECA and then they started teasing the sets coming out later this year. Last week we broke down the new Ninja Turtles collectors box (sorry my camera sucked capturing those cards) and now we check out the expansion starter set for Iron Man and War Machine. Unlike a traditional starter set, this does not release with a gravity feed so these 8 heroes are all we get, however if you want 4 dice for a character you need to buy a second box or hit up Ebay. Let's look at the cards and scheme up some uses for them.
Rescue - So I will start by talking about the "Suit Up" ability which is not my favorite. Essentially when you buy a character with that ability you can kill another die to field this new one at level 2. So if you already have a level 2 or 3 in the field this ability is mostly useless. Although pairing with a card that activated when people are KO'd might make this interesting. Otherwise, I think I like the low cost Rescue.
Jarvis - I don't love this character. The 5 Cost could be useful but his die faces make him near useless to field compared to other 5 costs. The "Ally" feature fits in any sidekick based offense or defense, but the cost is too high for me to choose this card on purpose.
Iron Spider - The dual affiliation makes this card easy to pair up with other sets, and I think the character has good value. The 4 cost card could be really strong on a team with lots of Iron Man or Spiderman buddies.
Iron Manor - You have to take one of the cards that gives you bonuses for your Iron Man affiliations, the question becomes whether you value that global ability to bump the cost from 4-5.
Hulkbuster Iron Man - This is the heavy in the set, and so if you build a team from this collection I would have to take one. Again, i don't love the Suit Up version so much but I can see scrapping a 4 cost Iron Man to throw this 6 cost Iron Man out for free. However the 7 cost giving you life and knocking out one of their best players is pretty handy.
Howard Stark - This is more what I expected from Jarvis. Not too expensive and much more useful within a couple different scheme types.
War Marchine - I love the "Fast" characters especially early in a match. I would try to get this guy out early to keep the other team from really getting established. And the "Rhodes" card dealing direct damage to your opponent could add up quickly.
Space Armor Iron Man - I like the 4 cost if you plan to scrap it to field your Hulk Buster for free. Otherwise I think the 5 cost is the most useful getting life boosts whenever he takes damage and he happens to be built for defense.
So what teams are you planning already? Or since there are only 8 characters are you just using this set as a complete team? Check out our video below of our unboxing and review of this annual starter set:
