Sonic Mania Collector's Edition - A Must Have for All Retro Gamers

As you may have noticed, there has not been a truly great Sonic the Hedgehog game in quite some time. Sonic Generations was pretty good, mixing all different styles of Sonic game play throughout the years. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 tried an episodic approach that just didn't quite fly with gamers. There was a time where Sonic could do no wrong, and somewhere down the line this changed. In the past 10 years there have been some truly terrible games that our favorite spiky-haired rodent has starred in, such as the famously terrible Sonic '06. Earlier this summer Sonic Mania was announced with an amazing trailer (below) that showed that Sega was committed on getting Sonic back on the right track with gamers. Featuring brand new zones, and remixed classics, Sonic Mania is going to surely be a hit for anyone who remotely loved the original games on the Sega Genesis.

It's the ultimate Sonic celebration! Sonic returns in a new 2D platforming high speed adventure, and he's not alone! Developed in collaboration between SEGA, Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games, experience new zones and remixed classic levels with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles!

Sega has announced that a limited collector's edition of Sonic Mania will be released to include all kinds of retro-themed bonuses. The most prominent is a 12" statute of Sonic standing on an original model Sega Genesis that plays the famous "SEEEGA" startup sound.  A replica Sega Genesis cartridge featuring the Sonic Mania artwork is also included, and slides open to reveal a surprise golden ring. Since the game is digital only, there also is a metallic collector's card that holds your download key for the game. Finally, let's talk about the packaging. The retro-themed old-school Sega Genesis box looks great. It looks like something straight out of the 90's and could easily pass as something that could have been sold during that era.  The bummer part is there is no physical disc, but the fact that the rest of this collection is so epic, they get a pass.  Sonic is an excellent mascot for the company, in fact it's probably what Sega is best known for here in the United States. Sonic deserves to have a great game again, and who knows, maybe this can start a new regular series for the franchise. I have already preordered my copy of Sonic Mania and I suggest you do the same soon as these will not last long.  Sonic Mania will be released in Spring of 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
