Ever since Nintendo shut down Club Nintendo last year, there has been a void that has yet to be filled for rewarding loyal customers. You used to be able to earn points by redeeming codes inside of select Wii, DS, and 3DS games as well as systems. This provided an extended warranty on your system as a perk for registering it with the club. Points could be redeemed for cool exclusive merchandise only found in the Club Nintendo store like statues, T-shirts, and more. Digital game codes were also available for select titles each month. In addition, depending on how many coins you redeemed, you could be eligible for a yearly Gold or Platinum prize. In the beginning the Platinum prizes were must haves. Mario hats, deluxe statues, pin sets, and more were sent to my door year after year.
In late 2014 the rewards started to dwindle. Barely anything was left in the Club Nintendo store, and some feared the end was near. Nintendo announced in early 2015 that the Club Nintendo platform would be discontinued by Summer of 2015, and that all remaining coins needed to be redeemed or they would expire. Luckily, Nintendo put some new exclusive rewards together, as well as a long list of titles that could be digitally downloaded. A new program was announced last Summer to be coming soon.
We have not heard much from Nintendo on this new rewards program, only that a Nintendo Account will be available to link all of your social media accounts to your Nintendo ID. This potentially could provide game interaction with social media, as well as tying purchases to the account rather than the device. This is all well overdue for Nintendo, as technology has dictated that these features are now the norm. Hopefully cross-buy is also a feature, which would take a nice cue from Sony. Hopefully Nintendo will announce something soon, and hopefully they will offer up some sweet rewards once more.
Today, you are able to create your Nintendo Account and link your existing Nintendo ID and your social media accounts. Get a jump on the game and register today so you are ready when Nintendo announces their new rewards program!
